Ageing in Society

• An Ageing Society requires design to support the elderly as their functions fail
• The proportion of Elderly is increasing in all countries
• The Elderly need less tasks in the home in order to undertake a quality life
• This means there is a Retirement Living for the well and mobile elderly
• This means Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF) for those who need 12 hours of care a day – especially those with dementia.

Objectives in the Design of Care Facilities?

• This is for people who need at least 12 hours assistance with daily living
• That built space directly effects the wellness and satisfaction of residents and their families
• If there are ambulant dementia residents – good design helps reduce agitation, unconstructive wandering, incontinence and antisocial behaviour
• Good design can reduce staff time required to care for residents with dementia
• Good design can assist with aging in place2014
