Ageing in Society
- An Ageing Society requires design to support the elderly as their functions fail
- The proportion of Elderly is increasing in all countries
- The Elderly need less tasks in the home in order to undertake a quality life
- This means there is a Retirement Living for the well and mobile elderly
- This means Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF) for those who need 12 hours of care a day – especially those with dementia.
Objectives in the Design of Care Facilities?
- This is for people who need at least 12 hours assistance with daily living
- That built space directly effects the wellness and satisfaction of residents and their families
- If there are ambulant dementia residents – good design helps reduce agitation, unconstructive wandering, incontinence and antisocial behaviour
- Good design can reduce staff time required to care for residents with dementia
- Good design can assist with aging in place2014
